Mr. O’Barry is still detained in Japan because Mr. O’Barry wants to be detained.  He was intercepted a Narita Airport, Tokyo, Japan, and ordered to leave the country.   

Mr. O’Barry decided to defy that order and demanded a formal deportation order.  He could have left Japan but he decided to stay and fight the order.  Now it is making its way through the legal system causing his chosen detention for 18 days as of this writing.   

He is free to leave Japan anytime he request.  However by selecting to be held it promotes sympathy and due to the fund raising efforts, more money.  This is all a’ la criminal Watson of the cult group floating circus Sea Shepherd .
