Paul Watson was not going to spend
years in a Japanese jail. Most likely
three or four months. If Japan agreed to
give him credit for time served in Greenland, that would mean no time to serve
in Japan. So, big deal. By not agreeing to back out the time, Japan
lost the opportunity to have Watson face charges in a Japanese courtroom. It also gives Watson bragging material. He brags he stopped Japanese whaling. Now he can brag he defeated the Japanese
government.
