"Whale Wars: Viking Shores" another Sea Shepherd lie?

“Whale Wars: Viking Shores”
another Sea Shepherd lie?

Discovery Channel Animal Planet’s “Whale Wars: Viking Shores” is about Sea Shepherd’s visit to the Faroe Islands in 2011.

Sea Shepherd went there to stop whale hunting that did not happen.  She Shepherd attempted to engage in a confrontation with the locals and that too never happened.  Animal Planet and Sea Shepherd were failures in trying to get dramatic video from the good people of the Faroe Islands.

The descendants of the Vikings in the Faroe Islands knew what Animal Planet and Sea Shepherd were up to, that they needed dramatic video for their cable channel television show.  Sea Shepherd’s numerous attempts to initiate a confrontation were met with failure as the good people of the Faroe Islands did not cooperate by not participating.

They used video footage over twenty years old because newer confrontational video does not exists.  The trailer shows Sea Shepherd engaged in terrorist activities by firing rockets at the Faroe police.  Proving they are indeed terrorist.

Rather appropriately former Faroese politician Oli Breckmann labeled the cult group a “floating circus” with the goal of getting donations from suckers around the world.

Please look at the 13:37 mark on this video, and you will see an aerial view claiming to be Torshavn, Faroe Islands, when in fact it is an aerial view of Lerwick, Shetland Islands, Scotland:

Paul Watson et al. demonstrate their overwhelming hubris when they set themselves as judge and jury as to what is "justice" regardless of what is legal. Their total disregard for 'diversity', i.e., the honoring of cultural differences, while seeking notoriety and financing from those who continue to claim moral superiority because of their sensitivity to political correctness is simply one more example of the never ending search for power of those who engage in activities such as this one. One hears echos of the rationalizations of those who fought to continue slavery in this country in Watson's group's attempts to justify their position.

this is the stupidest article i have ever read. its pretty clever how you have reviewed a whole documentary series that isnt even out yet. well done for writing a clearly ill informed, biased piece of rubbish.

the viking shores series is pure rubbish: http://0101bits.blogspot.com/2012/05/animal-planet-whale-wars-viking-shores.html

U r all rubbish

Paul Watson is the real Viking and he'll do what's right for the whales not for a hand full of self righteous islanders.

We don't need to really argue people. Lets all b friends because at the rate we r going we will destroy ourselves.

R u completely retarded, wait don't answer that. Wtf does slavery and helping harmless animals have to do w each other? Other than the fact slavery was a tradition around the world and many Yves fought very hard to abolish it.

Only uneducated cannibals would think that eating a pilot whale is a good idea. Do they have a library on these Faroe Islands, I bet they don't read much, what is the life expectancy of these people?
I bet it's very low, eating smoked blubber pure fat, year round.
Why is this boat circling this island when all they have to do is increase their efforts in deflecting the whales coming toward Feroe cannibal islands, they could have used those deflection devices much farther from the islands then trying to plant them near the coastline. Why go to these worthless islands and confront the cannibals. The feroe islands people are dumb and the people on this whale saving boat are even dumber.

wow someone sounds biased. maybe you shouldn't be a writer. FYI dont say something is something when its not! I think we all saw how those people represented themselves.

Actually it was reported on elsewhere long before the series was edited and released. Thus far it's all been full of lies, clever editing and bs. It's well known prior to this the Faroese never had a grind while the SS was there, they simply waited till Watson left. So video of them finding fresh whale or taking part in blocking grinds is totally fabricated. Hell, ask Watson where he's been for the past 26 years since 1986 when a warrant for his arrest in the Faroes was issued. Mr. I Ain't Scared Of No Warrant didn't venture back till he knew it had expired and used it for a lying drama tactic to boast his fearlessness. I doubt he's saying as much now that he's being held for extradition to face a warrant

"If the pilot whales are so intelligent, then why don't they just stay away from the Faroe Islands?"

There is no place in a modern society for this sort of barbarism. The Faroese people should be ashamed of themselves. They don't need the whale meat to survive when they have air freight, commercial shipping, and supermarkets. To claim that they do is a lie. The eyes of the world are on the Faroese and we are horrified by what we see. Even the Nazi's treated whales better.

What's interesting is the Paul Watson team state in the show earlier the Feorese people were monitoring their communications, and then when the the Paul Watson crew finds pilot whales, they don't use code words, and keep saying they found pilot whales again and again over unsecured radio communications.

it was like the Paul Watson crew wanted the Feroese people to hear them say they found whales to spark a confrontation.

Mind you,and think about this, they did this at the expense of the lives of the whales. If the Paul Watson crew was there truly to protect the whales, they wouldn't have been using unsecured communications talking again and again on the radios about how they found a big pod of pilot whales just off shore.....

I don't know if you are right or wrong about the scene being in Scotland or the Faroe islands, what I'm sure about is that Sea Shepherd doesn't do the editing on the show. Several weeks later editors and producers from either Discovery channel or the production company actually assemble the show and do the post production like cleaning the audio and video. Post production is always on a tight schedule and many people working post never went to the Faroe Islands so They can't tell one aerial shot of a city from another. Even big Hollywood movies are loaded with mistakes (see movie mistakes.com). Like Paul Watson I think you have your own personal agenda.

Just look like it this way though, if you become the whales that are being hunted, will you love it and willingly get captured? Their excuses would be that its become their tradition but i guess traditions are ok (Who knows, the whales that they will be killing this year might probably be the reincarnation of past whale hunter's who lived and died in Faroe island and now they get to feel the feeling of the whales they killed from the past when they where still alive being a whale hunters). But what would really be bad is when you capture whales illegally and use legit license from a strong Government to hunt extinct whales, as well as trying to be a whale savior and gathering resources from donations by people who got fooled and exaggerating stuff they capture on video by editing and by putting up false information.

Having watched the series, it seemed quite evident that whale meat is not a necessary food source for the Faroese people, so the arguement that the hunt is vital for their sustanance does not hold water. Furthermore, one of their own doctors pointed out that the meat is in fact detrimental to the human health due to the level of Mercury in the whales. This was a doctor that was more likely to be biased to defend his own people, and in fact stated that he hoped that the research would prove that the meat wasn't anything other than beneficial.
As far as the "cultural differences" defence goes, I would argue that a country that bases its primary source of cultural identity on the needless slaughter of animals is a sad group of people.

Maybe the programme has been dramatised a little, but it still doesn't excuse the fact that innocent whales are being slaughtered in a barbaric manner by barbaric people. I'm sure that they could live on chicken, pork and beef and live without whales.

I think people fail to understand that the faroe islanders have lived this way and the earliest documented hunts lead back to the 1500's. also they have evidence to state they have gone on as long as the 1200's. I can understand the concern but its a food source, we are omnivores we eat meat! There is only 2% roughly of farmable land on the island, sure they could probably import food but who would pay for it? maybe everyone who is complaining should send donations and pay for there food!

Please bear in mind that there is research to show there is over 788,000 pilot whales and they kill roughly 900-1000 per year on average, 90% of the whales are used for food, oil and fuel etc.

Now think about the next time you all eat a bacon sandwich considering pigs are considered pone of the more intelligent animals. We farm them, put them in small pens and when they are ready stun them and cut there throats, bearing in mind they never used to stun them just hang them upside down and cut there throats to let the blood drain.

Here's an idea since we do it with all our own farm animals why don't the islanders cage up these animals in pens in the ocean, then breed them just to kill them so they don't harm the wild ones! should make all the complainers happy since they will then be farmed animals.

Just remember if you eat any meat an animal probably has suffered, maybe not only by dying but also by its way of living, just because you don't kill it yourself doesn't make you eating it any different from these islanders.

I hate the idea of hunting for sport but hunting for food is another thing entirely. We have done it since the dawn of our species.

No life should be considered less important than another, its food plain and simple.

Some people need to be educated that the definition of cannibal means you eat your own species.

Please, "cultural differences" is the lame excuse for all inhuman things in this world - and they are too many too mention, unfortunately. And just because your ancestors ate a baby whale and it's family doesn't make it right! Don't you guys have supermarkets to get food? Oh, sorry... It's your annual festival to go on the piss and celebrate... Sell some t- shirts and other merchandise... Don't worry about the whale family that's so unfortunate to get trapped in your Fjoerd and get butchered! It's just fun for the Faroer people because it's TRADITION! But - Karma is a bitch.... I am afraid... and there will be a pay- back time. Don't forget - you are an Island. Gaia will appreciate your consideration of other mammals you DO NOT need for survival. Mark my words :)

Blablabla... the old Major of the Faroer Islands didn't really shine with integrity either. Of course, a TV program would sensationalize a situation, but in fairness - the people of the Faroers didn't really help to undo the inhumanity the TV people tried to demonstrate. Quite the opposite, actually.

Aahahaha... "the Faroese never had a grind while the SS was there, they simply waited till Watson left" (sic). Says it all really: who is the big fat lier here? You don't have the guts to have your - oh so precious grind while the SS is there... but afterwards!? And who is the coward exactly then? Pot calling the Kettle black perhaps?

This is not propaganda, the facts are there to see and if you did a little research instead of listening to so called educated and peaceful Feroese people , who in fact try to bully and intimidate.
Yes they have to eat.
Do they need to keep one years supply in case the shops close.
I think not.
Could it be that the whale meat is free and they do not want to spend money on food ?
It is just a form of field sport like fox hunting with no place in a civilised society.

The series is over damatic and the SS crew have tried very hard to spark a confrontation with the local people.
Why go into the port when theres a local festival on, they stay at sea normally, why did thir "covert van" driver wear a SS sweat shirt if they are trying to be covert, and a camera crew at customs?. obviously they wanted it stopped tp make the locals look bad.
I supported them in the previous whale wars but not any more, now it's all about TV rating.

Horrifically American and trying do over dramatise... Up to 1.4 million pilot whales out in that ocean, they kill max 800 a year and have done for 350 years... For food. Leave them to it... You go to Korea and go nuts because they eat dogs? France because they eat frogs??? Just because it's a whale it's no different from other mammals... People eat shark, that ok? Octopus? Ffs, I'm watching it now for the first time and it's a load of rubbish. P.s, sorry, I just went outside in the dark for a fag and stood on a snail.... Call the police!!!!

A-bloody-men!!!!

Perhaps everyone who is against the whale hunt should take a trip to a factory farm and a slaughter house and see the way we raise and treat our domestic stock. I don't support the pilot whale hunt but I don't see why it is any different to killing cows, pigs ect. At least the pilot whales have led a free, natural life before they were killed; more than can be said for factory farm animals.

Anonymous said...

Killing whales is just wrong, if it isnt needed for food and is only done for the sport thats a really sad sad class of people who would really allow it. The people in the know KNOW its wrong but do it anyway. Payback is a BIT-- remember that next time you set whale meat on your table!

GO PAUL WATSON...........KICK SOME WHALE KILLING BUTTS!!!!!!
FREAKS!!!!!!

im from the faroe islands. i eat whale meat, i dont see the problem here? -.-

I absolutely can not stand the Sea Shepherds and their tactics to do something that no one else in the world seams to have a problem with I think one of the islanders put it best when he said it must be nice to have someone else pay for your adventures I cheer for the Japanese every time they send a small boat or jet ski out there they have no right why aren't they after hog farmers they are a smart mammal how much diesel do they burn up and how much litter do they leave at the bottom of the ocean with their prop fowlers how come Green Peace isn't up in arms about that if I were the Japanese I would fire a harpoon through that fat pig Paul Watson think of all the blubber they could research off of his hide

If you want to kill families of whales in a terrifying, sometimes slow, way, sonetimes killing pregnant mothers, calves and juveniles, so that you can eat the high in mercury meat and develop health issues as a result. Go ahead and fight SSCS to the whales and waste your money, the jokes on you.

the Faroese people seem so uneducated its borderline hilarious. they claim these animals are unintelligent so they have a right to kill them. well im assuming if these are the rules of their country we might as well kill the Faroese off too. haha. backwards thinking people have no place in current times, you lack progression and contribution to modern society.
