Sea Shepherd: A man arrested on suspicion of damaging a
whaling monument.

On the 8th, of October,
2012 Wakayama Shingu police arrested Nils Greskies (25), a German member of Sea
Shepherd (Cove Guardians – Cove Coward Guardians) who professes himself to be a
gardener, on suspicion of the damage of property, namely breaking a whaling
monument. According to the police, the suspect is denying a part of the charge
claiming "I did not intend to break it".
He was arrested on a
charge of the damage of property, hanging down from the bronze monument modeling
a harpooner displayed in the whale beach park in Taiji and bending the 4m
harpoon in the middle, between pm 4:30-45 on the 8th October.
According to the
police, the suspect entered into the country on the 5th this month. It was his
first visit. The monument was set up in 1998.
