Sea Shepherd laughs at International agreements

All sea going vessels over 300 tons are required by international agreements to keep their A.I.S. – Automatic Identification System turned on.

Sea Shepherd's fleet

She Shepherd’s rust bucket garbage scows since November and December of 2011 have kept their A.I.S. turned off. The last dates their vessels had the A. I. S. turned on was:

MY Steve Irwin8 December 2011
MY Bob Barker18 November 2011
MV Brigitte Bardot21 December 2011 (not required to turn on their AIS)

The three agreements / treaties She Shepherd is in violation are:
1 – International Maritime Organization – IMO
2 – International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea – SOLAS
3 – International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea – COLREGS

Laws, treaties, international agreements mean nothing to this cult. They only adhere to the bellowing from their cult leader being the obedient minions they are.

NOTE: As of 5 January 2012, the MY Steve Irwin and MV Brigitte Bardot both turned on their A.I.S., after entering Australian waters.  The MY Bob Barker in the Southern Ocean still has their A.I.S. dead.

Hmmm but the whalers also have the AIS off... so what conclusion can you draw from that?

Do you have the data from de japanese fleet ? Or could it be that they all are out of range. I cannot find any ship in the artic seas.

Do you know how AIS works?
If you have one all ships can see you on there unit.. the range is around 30Mn.
If the Japan fleet had AIS ON then why would sea shepherd hunt for them?
They would show up on the screen of the Sea Shepherd ships.
So all groups are turning the AIS off.

Oke here we go ais has a range of 40 to 60 nm from the basestation. So please do your homework before you start bitching about our (eco) pirates. It makes you look dumb and uneducated

Hi Dirk you explanation is better and more complete.

I work with AIS every day! I am a commercial mariner.
On a ship the range is about 30Nm
some time less some times more
the point of the post was to point out that both sides have the AIS off.
I am sure that you can see that.

And how about you post as yourself not anonymous?

The question isn't weather the whalers are using their AIS or not, but rather that the Sea Shepherd is in violation of international treaties. They describe them selves as a "law enforcement" agency of some dreamed up sort, but will not adhere to international law and are therefore immoral people.

So are the Whalers Immoral as well?
As you have so delicately described that anyone who is not adhering to international law is Immoral.

My beef here is that "Propaganda Buster" is supposed to be busting propaganda not producing it.
But here we have a double standard being applied to on party.
If this is not propaganda then I do not really know what is.
