“Can you see what I am saying?”

A number of people in the USA after making a statement sometimes follow it up with “You see what I am saying?  Huh?  The person speaking is not a comic strip character with the benefit of a speech bubble.  Without a speech bubble one is unable to see what the person said. 

How about replacing that with: “Do you understand what I said.”  Or a reasonable facsimile will do.
